Quotas analyses German Rail Services from a Consumer Perspective
The “Verkehrsclub Deutschland” (German Traffic Association, VCD) commissioned Quotas to conduct the largest independent rail test in Germany. This year’s survey focuses on the existing entry-barriers for passengers and non-passengers of the German rail system. 2,800 persons were interviewed in a bi-weekly survey. The interviewed people had to evaluate nationwide as well as regional rail traffic.
The survey was organized in five parts: 1. Mobility analysis 2. Usage of the German rail system 3. Tariffs and the Acquisition of tickets 4. Entry and entry-barriers to the rail system 5. The last journey using the rail system
61.9% of the respondents state flexibility as the top characteristic influencing their choice for a means of transport. The second most important issue is a short duration of travel stated by 60.1%, closely followed by the punctuality of the trains stated by 51.5%. Cost issues just rank seventh stated by 27.7% of the respondents.
Users of rail traffic appreciate a relaxing and care-free journey (68.6%). Furthermore they stress the opportunity to be able to make better use of their time during the journey and the existence of good train connections.
